Last month we were thrilled to have Ryan's Grandma Marge come to visit for a few days. She has quite a few great grandchildren so long ago learned shortening it to GiGi for the little ones works great. Everyone adores Grandma Marge. Unless you meet her you will never understand the universal appeal of Grandma Marge. In fact after meeting her at our wedding my mom called me to tell me that she wanted to be Grandma Marge when she grew up. Still one of the funniest and cutest statements I have ever heard and yet so true...
She was on a trip to see the fall colors in New England and managed to change her flight home so she could stay a few days with us. This explains the lobster stuffed animal Than is holding in the photo which she got for him in Maine. That and the accompanying fish were a big hit due to Than's obsession with Nemo. It sounds like it was a fun trip, but we were really happy to get to spend some time with her. The last few times we have seen her it was during a whirlwind of family activities and craziness and not at all calm and relaxed time. This was exactly that. We didn't do a whole lot, and since she had just been dragged to virtually every place in New England she didn't have anywhere she wanted to go and being at home catching up and playing with Than was a blast!
Pretty much all we did was go to the park one day to let Than burn off some energy and run around. It was fun and we learned that Than will let older kids beat the snot out of him as long as he gets to play with them, without the slightest complaint. Not sure how useful that is to know, other than now we know that even if he isn't making noise or complaining still keep a careful watch because Than's version of a good time is a little rougher than mosts. Then on another quite brisk and windy day we went to pick out pumpkins from a local farm. Then Than renewed his pumpkin obsession from last year and slept with it for the next week or so. What can I say...most kids have a favorite Teddy bear, my son picks things like pumpkins or the current one is a large metal school bus. Doesn't that sound like something fun to cuddle up with at night?
We have been very lucky to have so much family come stay with us recently. Now we are just looking forward to Ryan's parents for Christmas and then sadly no other visits are planned...anyone feel a desperate need to come to Rhode Island?
